1991 Toyota Corolla where is the thermostat

If I let my car warm up or stop and go into a store for 5 mins or so my car warms up nicely. My guage will read between cold and hot. But as soon as I take off my gauge goes down to cold and my heat becomes cool.

The thermostat is located in a housing under the distributor. Follow the lower radiator hose up to the housing, the thermostat is held in place with two bolts.
Get a Toyota replacement and make sure the vent hole is pointing at 11:00 o'clock when you install, get a new gasket while you are at it.
