Hi, I have a 91 corolla that I always change the oil every 30000 mile at. I have the oil change at a shop and three dys later the engine blew on my way back home from work.I took the car to the same place I have the oil changed. They checked it and there was a big hole on the engine block righ next to the jonction with the oil panel. They told me I have to change the engine, so I went to a junk yard aske for a used engine. But the asked me what type of emission is the engine? I real don't know how to disting ish that?
whould you please help me out?

There are two engines available in 1991, the 4AFE (most common) and the 4AGE (rare).

There are also the Federal/Canada and the California engine. The difference being the CA engine is equipped with EGR, the Federal/Canada is not.

The EGR is located to the rear of throttle body on intake manifold.

There is also a sticker on hood with would say "EGR equipped" or Federal/Canada.

I am not sure if the VIN will tell you if it is EGR equipped or not. Both 4AFE (EGR and non-EGR) are engine code "6".
The 4AFE has one timing belt camshaft cog, the 4AGE has two.
