What is the sequence to time a 1987 Toyota Corolla with a timing light?

In the check connector jumper Te-1 to E-1 then hit it with the light-not to specs adjust it by turning the distributor

To add to great advice by Raz.

Connect diagnostic terminals with engine off, ign. Off.

Connect timing light to battery and inductive pickup to #1 (closest to timing belt).

Start engine (it will run slow and check engine light will flash every second).

Adjust dist. (Loosen bolts) to 10 degrees BTDC.

Turn engine off, remove diagnostic connectors.
