My mechanic recently recharged the frion (sp?) In my air conditioning unit. He told me he installed a thermostat that would drop the temp (making it colder) when I drove 45mph for 2 minutes or longer. What is this and where is it located in the unit?

I cant think of what he may have ADDED to the system to make it work better.

Look on your receipt, perhaps he replaced your expansion valve.

And I don't understand the whole driving 45 for 2 minutes thing.

Thanks for responding. My mechanic said he installed a thermostat on the air conditioner (separate from the main thermostat) and that it would kick down to a cooler degree when I drove 45 mph for 2 minutes or longer. That was about 40 days ago and the other day my air compressor seized. I'm trying to figure out if this thermostat caused it or not. Also, the day it seized, whenever I had my car going over 40mph, it seemed like it was losing power like a negative surge. What are your thoughts? I appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks, Jennifer

Well, I can't say if something he did caused the compressor to fail. Cause I don't know what this magical thermostat is that can somehow change the laws of physics at 45mph.

If the AC system hasn't worked for a while, then just simply charging it and getting running again could kill the compressor.

I'm still mystified about the super duper cooler thing.
