I need to replace the starter.
where is it located and do i have to raise the car up to do this?
and where would be a good place to buy a repair manual that does not cost too much?

Which engine variant do you have?

You can get an online manual by subscribing to providers such as Mitchell1. If you wish to get a hard copy, major book stores should have them

For more choice, googling would come up with tens of thousand of possibilities.

I have the basic ST version.
it know its between the flywheel and transmission on the drivers side.
but im wondering where exactly?
and if i need to jack up the car to replace it?
or can i juts pull of some parts and replace it my self?

You did not provide me with the engine variant. There are 3 different engines and location might differ.

i dont really know what engine variant means......
but i changed the starter out and now i have no eletrical power at all.

i changed the battery and it was dead overnight.

when i went to jumpstart the car the jumper cables were sparking like crazy and i was afraid to leave them attached.

could the one power cord attached to the starter short out the car?
if any part of that cable touches the starter and not just the bot does it short out?

no fuses are blown....

Engine variant means the engine type.

REcheck the battery to starter cable installation. I believe the cable is not correctly installed and is being grounded to the starter body.

its a four cylinder.
its the ST model
not shure but i think its 2.4 liter.
is that varient?

so i need to make sure the starter power calbe is not touching the body of the starter?
only the bolt to which its screwed to?

why would that kill the battery though?

when it stops raining i will go check to make sure nothing is touching and will let you know how it all goes!

If the main cable is grounded to body, it would cause a lot of sparks and the cable would heat up. This would drain the battery.

There are 3 engine types namely:
1. 4A-FE = 1.6
2. 3S-GTE = 2.0 Turbo
3. 5S-FE = 2.2

The engine code should be listed on the VIN plate.

all is fixed and running now!
never thought one bolt would kill the whole car, but it did!
