Brakes problem
1993 Toyota Celica Automatic 216000 miles

First issue - I have no brake lights. I have checked the fuses and they are all good. I don't know how to take off the cover for the rear lights to change the bulbs. I did take off a small cover and unscrew the top of the cover but am unable to get the panel off - any ideas?

Second issue - on my dash panel my brake light comes on when accelarating up a hill. I have confirmed that the emergency brake is off as well as that the brake fluid is completely full.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Before you change the bulbs, does the high mount work? If not check the stop light switch at the brake pedal, as for the light on the dash, you may need a new cap on the master.

High mount? Sorry, don't have a clue what you are referring to! I did purchase a subscription to eautorepair. Net so I will do a word search for both "high mount" and "stop light switch".

New cap on the master - you mean where the brake fluid is held?

Thanks again!

All cars sold in the USA since 1986 have that third brake light in the middle, so call it the cyclops, others the high mount. Yes the cap where the brake fluid is held, it has a float and switch built in and probably needs to be replaced.
