1992 Toyota Celica What are the symptoms of a bad transmiss

My car makes a thump and jerks when put from park to reverse. Also, when I accelerate I sometimes will hear a knocking sound that sounds like it's coming from the transmission. Sometimes it will only knock once or twice, and other times it will do it alot, and the knocking speeds up as I accelerate. It usually stops after I get to a constant speed.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

There should not be any noises like that in your transmission or drive line, I would go get the Trans checked first hand by a specialist, you can check the oil level and condition, it should be bright red & not smelling burnt, some of these noises may be drive line related, any thumping into gear will be box related and should be investigated ASAP.
