Oil pressure switch location?

I have a friend that took her car in because of the Oil light and Service Engine light. The shop says that the SE light is coming on because the Oil light being on is throwing that code. Okay I can go with that. This is an intermittent problem, and the car is not ticking or knocking. The shop gave her an estimate cost of repairs at $2,500.00. It seems they are saying she needs a new oil pump. What she can't find out from them is whether or not they actually check the oil pressure. So I guess my question is, do Toyota Camry's have any history of oil pumps failing at only 166,000 miles or is it more likely a bad or clogged oil sending unit?

The oil pressure sensor is located at the rear of the engine up by the cylinder head. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I have a 1986 Toyota Camry with about 91,000 miles. My oil light has been coming on intermittently for about a year. My mechanic told me the oil pressure sender needs to be replaced.

Except for the oil light coming on, there are no other noticeable differences.

First, what purpose does the oil pressure sender serve?

Second, does it make sense that that's what needs to be replaced?

The oil pressure sensor, senses oil pressure in the engine block and feeds the info back to the ecm or dash, its a sign there is a problem, and yes the sensors short all of the time especially with the age and miles on your vehicle

So, the problem most likely is just that the sensor needs replacing, and once that's done, it "should" be okay?

I cant say for sure, but yes most likely, especially if you have no engine noise, hope I helped
