This bulb is changed from the inside once you open the trunk lid look behind the plate mount and the bulb can be be removed from there. A simple half twist and then replace it with a new unit.

Pull the license plate light assembly to the side of vehicle as shown in the illustration and release the claw, then disconnect the connector.

Electrical problem
2002 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 161, 00 miles

the liscense plate housing is moungted on the trunk. When I life the trunk to replace the lights. There are no screws to loosen. No obvious way to get into the housing. Does this repair/replacement require a special tool? 2nd question. The gravel guard under the engine. Has beome loose and is slightly hanging down. What type of bolts are required to repair this item?

In the car's manual, it will say to take it to a Toyota Mechanic to change the bulb. When I tried to replace my plate light, I couldn't. Taking it to a mechanic is the only way to change it.

Look at the lenses. Either they're bolted on with screw from the outside, or inside the trunk. If inside the trunk, you'll need to pull back the carpet to see them. If on the outside, you'll see the screws. Just remove them and the lenses and lights pop out.
