I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 95,000 MILES. I TOOK IT IN TO GET THE TIMING BELT REPLACED. THE SHOP ADVISED ME TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP, SEALS AND BELTS SINCE IT WAS CONVENIENT. I DID FOR 915.00.
I PICKED IT UP WHEN IT WAS DONE, STARTED IT UP AND HEARD A CONTINUING KNOCKING IN MY ENGINE THAT WAS NEVER THERE BEFORE.
MECHANIC AND OWNER SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE. I'M GOING TO TOW IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER FOR A ANALYSIS.
SOUNDS TO ME LIKE PISTON OR BEARING PROBLEM.

WHAT DID THEY DO?

I HAVE DRIVEN THAT CAR FOR OVER 5 YEARS LIKE IT WAS MADE OF GLASS.

Hi LAMBO,

Thank you for the donation.

Depending on the type of noise, it could be anything from valves to belt tension adjustment and pulley bolt torques.

Without the physical car and understanding the type of noise, it would be impossible to pin point the source.

Getting professional aid is inevitable in this case.

You're welcome

thx for the response

Honest 1 said the valve nearest the timing belt was probably bent by the repair shop I used so.
I took it back and they said the cam is wobbly or bent which is making the noise
they're replacing it now
hopefully that takes care of the problem

thx again

LAMBO

Wobbly cam? Now that sounds funny.

Bent valve is a possibility if the camshaft or crankshaft was turned while the timing belt was out.

As they have found the cause, hope they fix it.

Have a nice day.
