1999 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 240k miles

I have a 99 camry with approx 240k miles. The car is in need of a new battery, which I can change, but. The last time I changed the battery (8 years ago), the car would run fine for about 3 miles and then stall and would not restart. It took a trip to the dealership and all they could tell me is that the vehicle required a Toyota brand battery.

Is there some "secret" to changing the battery? Someone mentioned that you have to hold the idle at a certain rpm for a certain amount of time. I have never heard of this but it wouldn't surprise me. Is there anything I need to be doing to ensure the car isn't going to "die" when I put this new battery in?

I do not think there is any special way to change the battery. I have the same 99 camry, 243,000 miles, change the battery 4 times already with the engine OFF. No problem whatsoever. First one I bought it from Pepboys, the last 3 from Costco. Alarm went off for 5 seconds, then that is it. I also change the battery cable clamp with brass type. Just make sure to wire brush the inside of the battery clamp and the outside of the battery poles and tighten it well to ensure contact.
