I had a mechanic check the valve train and he said both cams and related parts needed to be replaced. He pulled the valve cover and checked this. He said they were both overly worn for the mileage. My question is can I just do this myself?

Unless you have done this before or have PROPER tools and toyota specs and step by step toyota manual (not chilton or haynes), I would leave this kind of job to the toyota dealership mechanic. I am also skeptical of the premature cam wear diagnosis.

Thanks for the reply and I will take your advice on this one. I definitely don't have all the proper tools or the specs.
