Engine Cooling problem
1997 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 142000 miles

Just found a hairline fracture (6-8" long) running along the side of the radiator within 1/4-inch of the top. Car has not been overheating. Small amount of water deposit below it. Is there a way to seal the crack or does the whole radiator need to be replaced? Thanks for your help!

I would suggest replacing the radiator. If the top plastic breaks and overheated, chances are, it will cost you more like replacing the cylinder head gasket and resurfacing the cylinder head to the machine shop.

Cost of the whole NEW radiator is $99.00 at Autozone or Pepboys.

Hi dsplc,

Thank you for your suggestion. I understand that if the radiator fails, it'd cause more costly repairs.

However, since the crack seems to be relatively minor at this point, I was hoping for a way to patch the crack--like patching a hole on a flat bicycle inner tube. Perhaps wishful thinking.

I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my query!
