1996 Toyota Camry driver side door lock

i am unable to lock the driver's side door unless i use my keyless entry button. if i try to lock using the button on the armrest, it locks, unlocks very quickly.
it also beeps continually when the driver's side door is open...stops when i close the door. this does not happen on the passenger door.

please help...thanks for your advice!!

Are you talking about locking the door with a KEY? I have the same problem before, I seldom use the key and instead I use the remote control to lock and unlock the door. After a few months, the teeth inside the key slot gets stuck. I used a W-40 lubricant and sprayed the inside of the key slot on the door and wiggled the key until it turns freely to lock/unlock the door.

The beeping sound, sorry I can't answer if it is normal or not.
