I have a driver's side tire that is only 6 months old and is already worn out and the tire is leaning a little anyway am assuming that the ball joint needs to be replaced and wondering how hard it is to replace for amateur mechnic and about how long it should take?

I would get the front end inspected or if you know how, check for play in the joint before you go teatring into it. Might only need an alignment. Jack up the affected side, shake the tire with hands at 12 and 6 on the tire, do it again at 3 and 9. See any play in the tie rod? Or ball joint? Sometimes you can get at the nut on the ball joint without removing the cv axle and sometimes you can't!
