My brake light functions but is dim?

My brake light functions but is dim when the tail lights are off(daytime) but does not work when taillights are on. With lights turned on the taillight goes out completely when the brake pedal is depressed. I replaced the bulb but this made no difference.

The most common cause of a dim bulb is high resistance in the circuit that is causing the bulb to not illuminate completely.

However, within this issue itself the leading cause of it is corrosion on the socket. So more than likely we need to replace the socket in order to restore the brightness.
