Transmission problem
1994 Toyota Camry 6 cyl Automatic 242000 miles

My o/d sensor blinks when it's on and stays lit when it's off. I just did a trip of about 1000 miles and now the acceleration lags. About how long do I have before it goes. What is a good price range on repairing transmission issues pertaining to the situation?

Hi Jdilan,

When the OD light blinks, an error has been detected in the transmission control system and the error is recorded in the ATCU.

You would need to retrieve the trouble code to understand what is causing it. The poor acceleration is most likely due to the transmission control going into " Limp Mode " and when this occurs, the gears would be locked, mostly in 3rd speed and not allowing up or down shifting till the engine is turned off and restarted.

Get a scan done to retrieve the trouble codes so we can understand what is causing it.

As to how long the trans can last, it would depend on the situation. If the trans is in " Limp Mode " try to accelerate as gently as possible to avoid damaging the clutches.

Price varies region to region so it is best to get a few quotation from different shops to understand the local condition.
