1993 Toyota Camry my car runs rough

Hi! My car has been running really rough for the past week. The symptoms are: the engine skips, it also gives off a "almondy odor". The car also shakes when I drive it & the normally quiet engine is sounding pretty loud. The really strange thing is that the engine does not seem to be over-heating, at least according to the indicator lights & the fact there, at least so far, there is no smoke comming from the engine. I just hate to be pushy but my 12 yr old son & I are planning a pretty long trip tommorrow(10/31) & I need to know if this car will be safe to take on the trip. THANKS, Josie

Thank you for the donation.

The almondy smell could be coolant getting into the cylinders and being burnt.

Check the coolant level both at radator and recovery tank.

If the engine is missing, I would not recommend going on a long trip unless it is checked and necessary repairs carried out.

The missing could be due t a bad gasket if the recovery tank and radiator coolant level is abnormal.
