1993 Camry LE 134000 miles-The Gasket is leaking oil on the back side of the engine and a little anti freeze was also noticed. The technician said that its not going in to the radiator right now but he said its a fairly big leak. Wondering if some one may know a resaonable estimate to have this fixed. Thanks much

Thanks. I am sorry. All is know is that he told me its the head gasket that is leaking oil on the back side of the engine and he could see a little anti freeze also but there is nothing going in to the radiator. I just tried calling to get more details but no answer.

No need to be sorry. A head gasket replacement requires the head to be removed from the engine ( a lot of work). With 134000 miles on the head, you should have the head rebuilt or replaced with a new or remanufactured head. When a head is removed from an engine it should always be checked for warpage. Being that the head on your engine is aluminum, it will (allmost always be warped) when it is removed -- just a fact of physics. Also, the head bolts MUST be replaced with new ones. Â If this job is done properly it should cost around $1000 to $1500.
