I just recently replaced the water pump and when I got it back, the engine is smoking alot after driving for a while. The smoke doesnt appear to be coming out of the exaust, more from the manifold area under the hood. I noticed that there is a lot of fluid in that area. Unknown if it is oil or power sterring. I just replaced the valve cover gasket, and it is still building up more fluid. I dont see a visible leak anywhere.

Hi chris_grindheim,

Depending on the type of smoke and smell it emits. Oil burning could be due to oil spilled onto the exhaust while replacing the valve cover gaskets.

If it is coolant that is spilled onto the manifolds, it should smell sweet and would go away after it dries up. Prolonged smoking could mean a leak somewhere.
