1989 Toyota Camry Starting Circuit

Our old reliable Camry appears to have a gremlin in the starting cirtuit.

We've checked all of the usual culprits - starter, starter relay, etc.

The problem is intermitten and may be in the safety switch that prohibits starting whenever the gearshif is not in "Park". Or possibly the problem may be in the steering column?

Does this make sense? If so, where do we find and how do we isolate the problem and make the repair?

When it fail to start have to check small S terminal wire at the starter for power as a helper holding the ignition in start position if have power and no start you have a defective starter
if no power
go back and check if have power from the ignition switch
if not switch at fault and need to be replaced

if have power locate neutral safety switch and if for power in and out when in park or neutral
if in and no out switch bad and require replacing
if no power in wiring harness at fault
