Car appears to be operating normally. Turn off engine for a short stop-when restart car the ABS light comes on, then check engine light comes on and speedometer doesn't work. Odometer works fine. Car appears to not shift correctly as driving continues maybe something to do with speedometer. After car sits 30 minutes or more, everything is fine. Brakes appear to be ok. This has happened about 4 times in the last year. May not happen again for months even on long trips. Happened yesterday.

May want to have it scanned to see what the check engine light code is. It may or may not lead to the fix, but it is a place to start. Does everythign else in thecar work normally when this is happening, like power windows, radio

Thanks for the answer. The check engine light goes out too quick usually, but this time we did get a reading that said there was either a loose connection in the speed sensor or it was bad. It's gone away again for now.

You may be looking at a new sensor then. Check the connections to be sure they are clean and tight
