1996 Toyota Avalon 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 139k miles

I try to start my car, turn key and hear a click only. I take the vehicle out of park and throw it in neutral and it starts only if I move gear shift up and down to find sweet spot. I had this trouble before with a Camry. Thanks

Moving the shifter is not actually doing anything, just coincidence. Replace the starter motor. The starter solenoid has burn marks on it from use over time and it makes it harder and harder to make a good contact. Starter repalcement is the only option. Hope this helps
