I have a 1997 toyota 4runner 2wd with a 2.7 L 4 cylinder engine. I have had a diagnostic run on it because I wsa loosing coolant and I noticed smoke coming from the tailpipe whenever I started the car and it had been sitting for a while. Toyota said that it could either be a broken head gasket or a cracked head. They said to just replace the head gasket would cost around 1500 dollars, another place quoted me 1300 dollars and around 500 more to get a refurbished head. I am just wondering if these amounts were correct or if I am being ripped off. Thanks

What are they doing for that money? Timing chain? Water pump? ANY thing else besides the head gasket? I come up with 800.00 P&L!

They are replacing the timing chain. Nothing about the water pump. Pressure checking the head for a crack. Thats about it. It seems a bit steep. Tell me what you think
