I am due for a 90k mile tune-up on my 2002 Toyota 4-runner. An independent repair shop told me that when they put the new timing belt on along with changing all of the other belts as well. They recommend replacing the water pump to. They said as long as they were in there. They also said that once a new belt is put on an older water pump. It would not work as well. Huh?

They may not have explained it right, your waterpump is driven by the timming belt, and the question becomes one of are you willing to gamble on a waterpump with 90,000 miles? If that pump should go bad, it will destroy the new belt. It's penny wise, pound foolish not to do it!
