Where is the fuel filter located. Is it hard to replace?

My check engine light and vsc lights came on. I read they always come on together. Comment? Could the fuel filter affect the lights

The fuel filter is located under the truck on the drivers side. It is covered with a splash guard. It could produce a check engine light, but find out the code, this will tell you more.
