The check engine light recently came on on my 1999 4Runner. I just had the front O2 sensor replaced. Can you give me any indication as to what the problem is now? I have an appointment at a dealer to diagnose the problem but am afraid they are going to tell it is the catalytic converter which I know costs around $1000 dollars. If it is the converter do you see a problem with replacing it with an aftermarket model which I see advertised for about half as much?
Thank you very much,
Steve

Go to Autozone they will read the codes for free, do this before your trip to the dealer. Post resulting code(s) here.

Yep the converter is probably "dead" and needs replacement, an aftermarket will work OK.
