1998 Toyota 4Runner Check Engine Light Came on Momentarily

While on the interstate with my family my check engine light came on in my 1998 Toyota 4Runner. Several minutes later while still on the interstate, each time that I tried to accelerate on the gas the car starts jerking. It seems very noticiable when going uphill and when first starting the car and taking off. The transmission is automatic. Someone said that it could be the transmission but I think that it could be something with the fuel pump or needs a tune up. What do you think?

I apologize for bothering you with my question, but it looks like I have the same problem with my 1998 4runner.
From what I see nobody answered your question. Hopefully you found out what it's wrong with your 4runner and maybe fixed the problem, for what I respectfully ask that if you would be so kind to share the Know How with me.
