My 4Runner has 160K. It has purred like a kitten for most of it's years. However, my 4-wheel drive shifter no longer functions. It's as if it is frozen. The transmission is manual. Engine is 6 cylinder. I have tried to rock into 4 wheel, but that has not worked. I am unable to budge it, thus no light on the dash and no power to the two front wheels. My mechanic didn't have any luck, but he works on Alfa/Subaru's; I had the latter prior to 94. Any suggestions? I am looking to sell ASAP, as I have bought a new Ridgeline. Thanks! -Peter Morse

Manual t-case I take it. Try getting under it and unhooking the shifter to move the t-case linkage by hand, this will tell if it is the shifter or the t-case.
