My son went mudding over the weekend, ever since then the check engine light comes on. This occurs mainly at higher speeds, when I let up on the gas it goes out but comes on again later. It is running great, uses no oil for this many miles.

Your son may have gotten the wires really wet. Try disconnecting the battery, leave it off for a while then reconnect it. The computer might reset itself, if not have it scanned to find out what the problem is.

Well, my brother has an 86 Hi-Lux and I have an 86 4Runner. His check engine light has been on for about 6 years and mine for about 4. Both trucks run fine. They are both subject to heavy offroad use. Sometimes the check engine lights go off for a few days, but they keep coming back on. We have tried numerous checks, but neither of us have any computer diagnostic problems. Neither truck uses or leaks oil, so I don't know what to tell you. I guess if I owned a chevy or a ford and the check engine light came on, I would be scared, but since I have lived with it for 4 years now, I am not worried as I have owned toyotas for 22 years and only had to call a tow truck once.

Sometimes the sensors can make the engine light go on. Most of the time it is something minor. But sometimes it could be a major problem. If you hear any weird noises or knocking it should be checked. If you have had it happening for 4 years then it has to be a minor thing
