I want to help my sister from Texas. If I put the tow package on my car would my transmission be able to handle a small U-Haul trailer?

If you go to U-haul they will let you know one way or another whether or not the car is able to tow. Look at gross vehicle weight on door sticker it will let you know how much you can tow. But if your car is more 2500 lbs I kind of doubt it.

According to the Ford Towing guide for your year the maximum towing capacity for your vehicle is 1000 pounds. Here is the link to the guide the information is on page 24.

So if you got a small trailer and kept the load plus trailer weight under 1000 pounds you should be just fine. Honestly to keep the wear and tear off of your vehicle I would just rent the smallest moving van they have.
