The torque converter went out in it a week ago and a new one was put in. The new one lasted 3 days, so now it's being replaced again. What do you think caused this to happen?

Hi,

It could have simply been a faulty part. However, there are other things that can happen. By chance, did they tell you how it failed? In other words, was it an internal part failure within the converter, or was it mechanical as far as the shaft/pump?

Also, when it failed this time, let me know what happened. Did you lose all use of the transmission or was it something with the over drive?

Let me know.

Joe

I never lost power or anything from the transmission. The transmission didn't get damaged, it was just the torque converter. The old what was shuddering and jerking the new one was shuddering and reverberating, and the engine light came on. It's in the shop being warranted out, so I don't know yet what happened to the new one yet.

This could be due to low internal transmission fluid pressure or the TCC solenoid is not working correctly. How did they determine the torque converter was bad in the first place can I ask? Are they any trouble codes?

The first time the torque converter was shuddering really bad that is why it was replaced the second one. I asked about it they said they didn't know since it's sealed, but they put a Ford OEM one in this time, but the engine light came on with the new one and the old one the light didn't come on so will find out as soon as I pick it up.

They told me the engine light was on due to over rev. So, they told me to break the new one in slowly. So we will see what happens.

Well, they put the new OEM Ford torque converter on and a torque lock or something was recommended. So, I got it back yesterday and drove to work this morning and guess what the same problem. I'm really not enjoying bringing this truck back and forth with no results. Maybe you can suggest some stuff for me to tell them to check. Thanks

Hi,

If it is still causing issues, I would be checking transmission line pressure. If it is low, that is going to cause issues. At 132,000, the transmission shouldn't be failing, but anything is possible.

Let me know what they tell you.

Take care,

Joe
