The power steering pump makes a humming/whining noise when the engine is running. Do you know if this needs to be replaced or just bled? Additionally, the dash says tire pressure monitoring system. What could be the problem with that? Also, the car is not inspected yet. It needs an inspection done in NJ. I hooked up my scanning tool to the vehicle and found what I think are some potential issues. Can anyone tell me anything about the data below and potential fixes involved?

Hi and welcome to 2CarPros.

Lets take all this in order.

1: The power steering pump will whine if it is sucking air. Make sure the fluid is full. The only way to bleed that system is to make sure the fluid is full and then turn the wheel back and forth from lock to lock until it stops whining.

The tire pressure issue sounds like one of the sensors has failed or you have low tire pressure. Any tire shop can check the sensors.

2: The P0513 code means the ECM does not recognize the chip in the key. The chip has failed or its the wrong key for the car.

3: The C0899 code means the main power wire for the ABS controller has low voltage. There should be a power connector with a 12 gauge red and black wire on it. Test the red for 12 volts.

The rest of the scanner readings look normal from what I can see.

Rich.

If I take it to a shop, do you have any idea how extensive these repairs would be or how costly?

That greatly depends on where you take it. I have seen rate from $80.00 to $200.00 an hour. A lot of shops will do free estimates though.

The first 2 shouldn't be too bad but the ABS power might get pricey if it takes a long time to find the issue.
