Changed water pump and thermostat. When I got it back together it wouldn't start. It would turn over, drag every couple of turns, and repeat. Seemed like the timing jumped. So I took it back apart to make sure markings were lined up. Put it back together and now it seems to be turning over too fast. Almost a spin land like it's not get any fire or compression. Please help. I've been down for a week and really need to get back to work.

Hi,

When you reset the timing, was it correct? I have a concern. If the timing was off and you tried to start it, chances are the drag you were hearing was contact between the pistons and valves. This engine is an interference engine and this would cause internal damage.

Do this: If you are certain that the timing is correct, record the engine cranking and upload it for me to hear. I can usually tell if there is an issue.

If you are not sure, take a look at the attached pic. It shows the alignment marks. Let me know if that is what you saw.

Take care,
Joe
