The car is running fine, but then will just quit, like it's running out of gas. Won't restart, then after waiting will restart and run for a while then same thing over. Two codes P0335 and P0340. Car runs fine has a low idle, but just quits for no apparent reason. Mechanic indicates a loose timing chain, but car would run bad with a loose timing chain.

Hi,

What you described sounds like a crankshaft position sensor failing (both codes are related to the crankshaft position sensor). When they begin to fail, they are adversely affected by heat. When this happens, the ignition spark to the plugs is lost, and the engine stalls. After the sensor cools, the engine will restart until it hits that magic temperature.

Do me a favor. Take a look through this link and let me know if it mirrors what you are experiencing:

As far as the two codes you have, both are related to what I mentioned, the crankshaft position sensor. That is the first thing I would check/replace.

One other thought. The timing chain wouldn't cause the engine to act this way.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
