2.5L. I noticed a sound that is mainly there when under load, when parked I hear it like in the videos. You know of any common timing chain or lifters or phasers or anything else on these models?

That could be a timing chain but that does sound more like a bearing knock.

Have you drained the oil and checked for metal?

Before you go to the point of pulling the cover off and check the tensioner off, because that is pretty extensive, I would try to identify if this is a bearing noise.

The fact that it gets louder on acceleration could be a timing chain, but they normally get louder on deceleration. So, when you take the tension off the chain it slaps the cover.

However, this noise sounds like it is starting on accel and then it continues rattling on deceleration.

So, the best way to try and get a better idea is to bring the RPMs up and hold it to see if the rattle is there. Then let off and if it continues then it is most likely crank bearings.

However, if it doesn't really start when holding higher RPMs (not floored but about 2,500) then as soon as you let off it starts then that would most likely be a timing chain.

If it is, then basically you are going to have to replace it. There are no TSBs or any known issues that I know of.

So, let's start with draining the oil to look for metal and see if the noise is there when holding the RPMs.

Very little up there, is it also possible noise is from phasers or chain from oil not reaching as much as it should. I will drain oil today.

If the chain is slapping, then you are going to see it on the front cover. It is possible for the chain to be tight between the cams and loose from the crank to the cams.

However, the phasers would not make the noise. If they are not getting oil, then you are going to have timing issue and OCV codes.

The knocking noise is most likely going to be bearing or the chain is slapping the timing cover.

Will be interesting to see what is in the oil.

Oil is so clean, nothing. And I turned the crank and looked for slap up or around the middle of chain, I see nothing. And no codes, just strange.

Okay. Then more than likely we are at the beginning of bearing damage or that is a wrist pin which is not that common. Do you have a borescope? If so, you can look in the spark plug hole and inspect the cylinder walls for damage. This would likely like any vertical marks. You should see zero vertical marks, only cross hatching. Vertical marks means the piston rings are contacting the walls. This will indicate the wrist pins are weak/loose causing this issue.
