The timing chain was completed in January 2023. Slowly over the last month-2 months I’ve started hearing rattling and now it’s getting worse. You can hear chain slapping on start-up, but the check engine light isn’t on. Oil is good and I haven’t seen any metal in it. I want another opinion as I say it’s timing chain but everyone else is saying it doesn’t sound like it.

Hi,

It could be the chain. There could be a failing tensioner. The best thing to do is purchase an automotive stethoscope and place it on the timing chain cover to see if that is where the sound is coming from.

Also, if it is loud enough, record it and upload it for me to hear. I may be able to recognize it.
When they replaced the chain, were any other components replaced at the same time? I attached an exploded view of the timing chain and components. Take a look.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

I listened to the video and was unable to hear anything. By chance, could you have a helper start it while you record from under the hood?

Let me know.
