What's the quickest & easiest way to check/adjust the timing on a 2009 Toyota Corolla Ascent ZRE152R 1.8 litre 2ZRFE I4 16V DOHC Automatic.
I mistakenly removed the Timing Chain Tensioner & suspect that timing has jumped a tooth. The Engine Light (drivetrain) is now ON dash & OBDII scan shows error code: P0017

More than likely you are correct that this is a timing issue. However, it could also be a coincidence because there are other issues like the variable valve timing system. Here is a guide that talks more about this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-camshaft-variable-valve-timing-works

Below you will find the process from the manual on this code as the best way to find this is to run through the testing below.

If this happened right after the timing chain issue then I suspect the issue is the timing.

Which means we need to run through the testing below and that will show how to check the timing.

Please let us know what you find with this and we can go from there.

Thanks
