Ticking noise

When I start the car I hear ticking noise when it's in drive I don't, in park I hear it. Don't know what it is.

Hi Shontala,

Ticking noises can be a number of different things. Could be a lifter (part of the valve train in the engine), a fuel injector, something rotating making contact with something else, pistons, etc.

The easiest thing to do for us to try to narrow this down is if you took a video of the noise and posted it here on this thread. I would suggest getting someplace quite and start out with the vehicle not making the noise, then get it to make the noise, then go back to not making the noise.

So in your case, start the engine and get what it sounds like without the noise, then put the vehicle in gear so that it starts making the noise, then shift back to park so that the noise stops. You can do this a couple of times but the important thing is we want to be able to hear the difference when it does it and not.
