When I start my truck and it is sitting it has a somewhat of a diesel noise kind of a clicking, but when I accelerate it goes away. It runs just fine no codes are being thrown and no engine light. Some people say it's normal but it still bothers me. Any input or ideas would be very helpful and give me a peace of mind.

Hi:
Is the sound from the engine or does it seem to come from under it? Is the engine oil clean and full? If possible, could you record the sound and upload it for me to hear?

Let me know.

Can hear it better on the front passenger side not sure exactly if it's under it. I have the oil changed regularly by Toyota and they do a routine check and say the truck is fine but the noise still bothers me.

Hi

Honestly, I don't hear anything out of the ordinary. There is a slight engine noise, but I don't feel it is anything to worry about. Has the oil light come on or anything that would cause additional concern?

Hi:

Honestly, I don't think it's anything to worry about. Does it change when the engine is warm or does it do it regardless of temp? I assume the engine oil is clean and full. The only other thing I can say is to make sure you are using a quality oil filter. I have actually experienced inexpensive filters causing the oil light to come on at idle. It's just a thought.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions.

Take care,
Joe

Makes the noise regardless, but when you warm it up you can hear it clearly and Toyota does all the oil. So I hope its quality stuff they're using.

I'm sure they are. I have a good friend that has the same vehicle. I'll see him tomorrow and listen to his to see if it is the same and let you know. He has a lot more miles on it. I think it's near 150,000, but has never had any issues with it.

Also, I checked through technical service bulletins and there is nothing related to this issue. The only engine noise is related to the serpentine belt. That's not what you are hearing. However, and this just popped into my head, you may want to remove the belt and start the engine just long enough to see if the noise is gone. Maybe it is one of the belt driven accessories.

I'll listen tomorrow. If you have other questions you would like me to check for, let me know.

Take care,
Joe

I just got home from work and had a chance to listen to my friend's truck. It sounds just like your video. Honestly, I don't feel there is anything to worry about.

We got nailed with a snow and ice today. Otherwise I was going to drive it to see if I noticed anything, but the roads here are a sheet of ice. Ugh! Have to love PA.

Let me know if you tried belt removal too. If you do it, don't let the truck run long at all. Just long enough to see if the sound has changed. At this point, I suspect it won't, but anything is possible.

Take care,
Joe
