There is a strange consistent noise coming from our back tires when accelerating from stopped or coasting on that initial speed. Braking stops the noise and riding the brake does too. We have about 400 miles until we are home and can take it to a mechanic. Does anyone know what the sound could be?

It sounds like one of your brake calipers is loose, like one of the mounting bolts has fallen out. This can cause large issues, I would try to look under the car to try and see if the brake calipers are secure. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response. Please check out the images below to see what I am talking about. Also, I would check the lug nuts to make sure they are secure.
