My husband changed water pump. when he put in the temperature sensor he added silicone to it. When starting up the car the car gauge went immediately to hot and the check gauge light was on. within a few minutes the gauge dropped back to cold and the check gauge light was off. but now the check gauge does not work. The only thing different he said he did was to add the silicone.

Hello,

What happens is if you over tighten the sensor it breaks the internal parts and causes the sensor not to work right. I would but a new sensor and replace it.

Here is a guide that will help you with the problem:

Please let us know what happens.
