The thermostat is a 190°. During a 3 mile run it pushes up over 220. Is that normal?

220 is a little high. However, it is most likely not overheating at that point so if it stays at 220 then that is okay. Assuming the thermostat is new and working then just make sure your timing is adjusted properly as this will cause the engine to run hot and is commonly overlooked.

Let me know if you have questions and we can go from there. Thanks

Hi,

If the temperature doesn't exceed that, it isn't considered overheating. However, that is a bit warmer than I would like to see it. Most vehicles will run around 210°F. Please keep in mind, outside temperatures, driving conditions, and so on all play a role it how hot it gets. If you are in an area where the temperature is over 100 and you are running it hard with the A/C on, that temperature doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

Let me know if I can help in any way.
Joe
