My truck is having electrical issues. The temperature controls will fail to turn on when I start the truck, or sometimes come on randomly when I'm driving down the road. Seems intermittent. I have replaced the climate control module a year ago, it was okay for a month or so then it randomly acted up again and started with the no power/power thing. My stereo quit working, so I replaced it about 3 months ago (had 6 CD changer). I do notice sometimes the display will reboot as if I started the truck (I have SYNC, but not the touch/navi model). What can I chase out to determine the issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Additional information:

(I'll try to record video when behavior changes again)

Start truck - system turns on (backlights lit up, and amber control lights on buttons responsive to changes).
Driving down road - working, then stopped out of nowhere.

Get call on cell - system kicks on (blowing air/control amber light on)
*I disconnected battery yesterday for 2 hours/stereo was set to use SYNC for Bluetooth handsfree by default* (Didn't answer call). Display panel on top rebooted at this time as well.

Stopped working shortly after starting with Bluetooth kick in butt.

Stop truck, park - still not working, sit in truck for 20 seconds (seat began to slide back - ez exit). Then air controls kick on again (amber lights on).

*Is it SYNC related?

I have seen this issue a few times and they all seem to be related to the SYNC system as you indicate. Unfortunately Ford has all sorts of issues with this system including the Accessory Protocol Module.

I included the information on this system. Clearly there could be other causes but it is not uncommon for the things that you replaced to be replaced and not fix it when it is a sync issue.

It is not the best option but I would suggest contacting the dealer and seeing if there are any available software updates because I know they have released many different ones to address the various issues.

Thanks for the schematics and documentation. I ran FORscan on it last night and reset the APIM, FDIM and BCM. It throws errors about communication to the FDIM. (Code: U0164 - Lost Communication With HVAC Control Module) and the APIM has this code: (Code: U0256 - Lost Communication With Front Controls Interface Module A).
Is the APIM a swappable part from another salvage truck?

That is interesting. Here are the tests that we need to run through for these codes. Based on that, I am not so sure the APIM is the issue any longer.

I looked through the post to see if you replaced the FCIM and I didn't see it. I am not suggesting to just replace that but hopefully your scan tool can run the through these self tests that the testing asks for.

Can you give a list of part numbers of what you have replaced so far just to be sure we are not confusing terms of parts? Some people call things one name and others call it something else. Part numbers will cut through that.

Let's run through the testing and go from there. Thanks

Not sure I can run the tests in FORscan. I connected and cleared all codes (DTCs would not fully clear). What is in logs is persistent.

I also ran live scan on FDIM.(See pic)

For replacement parts. I replaced the climate controls BL3T-18C612-DF, last October (per eBay purchase). This unit worked well for a couple months then began to bug out. Rarely, progressively getting worse.
My stereo completely quit working, no audio (was 6disc).I swapped w/ the JVC in the video, I have iDataLink and setup with SYNC integration. (This was done June 2020)

When I did all my test/scans tonight the HVAC was working the entire time, I might have to wait for it to fail to see where the problem is?

You are correct that we would need to see this while the vehicle is acting up however, the ForScan cannot perform this procedure so we will not be able to properly test it.

However, you can see on the Y2 test it asks if there are battery voltage related DTCs and while you don't have any, your freeze frame data shows 11.75volts. Lets load test the battery and alternator just to make sure they are okay. I am not saying this is the route cause but when we have low voltage we get all sorts of odd issues like this. Most parts stores can perform these tests free of charge.

Sure. Hopefully that solves it. Not only would it be easy but probably pretty inexpensive. We will wait to hear back. Thanks

Finally got by the parts store and they tested alternator and battery. Battery was bad. Replaced, unit is working, but it was working before. The issue was intermittent. I do believe this to be the cause though, I noticed when the truck fired up after replacing the battery the HVAC controls were off. I thought, great still broke. But when I hit power, it powered up. This hasn't been the case since this issue started. I never really had 'control' of power to the unit it seemed like. So that is a difference I do know that is positive. I will continue to monitor, but overall I greatly appreciate your help and will mark this fixed. If it comes back to haunt me I'll jump back on this thread. Thanks so much!

Awesome. That is great news. Hopefully your feeling is correct (I think it is) and this is taken care of.

If for some reason it does come back, check the battery again. You could have something draining the battery so we should start there again. Thanks for using 2CarPros.
