My 2000 Jaguar, s type started a tapping noise. I'm not totally certain where it is coming from but it seems to be mid or back area of the engine on the drivers side. It is loud when I start the car and after 10 seconds when the engine idles down it is quieter but still there. When accelerating or when the engine is revved, the tapping gets faster. Since this started I notice that the car sometimes will stall when the steering wheel is taken to the full range either right or left when turning or paralegal parking. I haven't driven it since the onset of this, except to change the side of the street for the snow plows. I would like an idea what the possible causes are before I bring it to the mechanic. Thanks in advance.

Sorry about the typo. I meant "parallel parking" not "paralegal" you have to keep an eye on spell check.

These engines are known for timing chain tensioner problems so have that checked out as noises are difficult for us to diagnose It may be a cam/follower problem or something similar to that.
