Tachometer speedometer and shift indicator not working

How can I test what kinda of numbers I am looking for when testing sensors and where can I find them? I ask this because I’ve seen here on the site and through the internet that I could be VSS, a-b solenoids in transmission pan or ignition switch. My problem comes and goes. I turn truck off sometimes disconnect battery reconnect start truck and it runs fine sometime over night.
