Trying to identify my transmission. I think I have it narrowed down to a BW t4. Can somebody please confirm this? And if so talk to me about lube. I'm finding some information about using ATF4. Seems a little thin to me, but there must be a reason. Just hesitant to use it. The oil that came out smells like 90 weight gear oil. But looks awful. Will include pictures. Let me clarify, The date stamp on the top cover says 84 that would seem to rule out it being an sr4, and the internet is a bit confusing about lubrication recommendations for the t4.

As far as I.D. look this over.

https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmissions/manual/t4-t5/

The T4 and T5 manual transmissions both use "Dexron II" .

Fill the unit up until it runs/ trickles back out of the fill hole.

One of these (see pics) will aid you greatly in putting fluid your transmission. Find it at the auto parts store.

It will work for installing your gear oil in the transfer case and both axles.

Pic 3) Hard to shift the ole transfer case? Here's how to fix that!

T-4. Confirmed. Lots of conflicting info on the type of lube to use. I'm convinced that a world class type, two wheel drive cased t5 in mustangs and such use ATF. I doubt that mine is a world class, it is date stamped '84. The info I was able to find hints that the world class design was only available '85 and after. Not sure what World class means exactly but I suppose it doesn't really matter, seeing as the basic design of the trans is still the same. I will drain the fresh 90w gear oil and replace with some dexron III or IIII ATF. Thx for the heads up on the transfer case shifter. I will use the tip well.

Okie dokie. Found out today that the fuel gauge is not reliable in the least. Haha. But that is a project for later. BTW I saw from your profile, our time in the Army overlapped a few years. I was in USAR from 1985 to 1992.

Roger that!

Whenever you are ready (new post), I think I've found the fix for the fuel and temperature gauge "CVR" problem.

So far, it's been working great since May 2018, Just goes to show you just one of the awesome abilities of an Airborne Ranger!
