COIL SPRING
Removal
Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel(s). Remove hub center cover. On 4WD models, remove axle shaft drive flange. Remove axle shaft snap ring and thrust washer. On all models, disconnect brake line from strut. Remove caliper from steering knuckle, and wire aside. See Fig. 3. Using appropriate tie rod remover, remove tie rod end from steering knuckle. See Fig. 4. Remove stabilizer ball joint. See Fig. 11. Remove wheel speed sensor and clamp. See Fig. 15.
Remove brake disc. If disc cannot be removed by hand, install two 8-mm bolts into threaded holes. Alternately tighten bolts to remove rotor from hub. Support control arm with jack. Remove strut-to-steering knuckle bolts. See Fig. 14. Disconnect ball joint from steering knuckle. See Fig. 5. Remove steering knuckle from vehicle. Slowly lower jack supporting control arm and remove coil spring from bump stopper. See Fig. 6.

Installation
Reverse removal procedure to install coil spring. Note the following:
Position largest diameter end of coil spring to bottom spring seat stop on lower control arm. See Fig. 6.
Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
When installing circlip to axle shaft, utilize screw hole in axle shaft to pull it out and install circlip.
Check wheel alignment. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.

COIL SPRING
Removal & Installation
Raise and support vehicle. Use floor jack to support axle housing. Disconnect parking brake cables from lower control arm. Remove nut and bolt holding shock absorber to rear axle housing. See Fig. 2.
Remove wheel speed sensor clamps, E-ring and disconnect breather hose. On 2.5L models, remove wheel speed sensor clamps from upper rod and axle housing, if equipped with ABS. For right side, remove E-ring for fixing brake pipe from cross member and disconnect breather hose from axle housing.
On 2.7L models, remove wheel speed sensor clamps (1) from vehicle and axle housing (2), if equipped with ABS. For right side, remove E-ring for fixing brake pipe from cross member and disconnect breather hose from axle housing.
On all models, slowly lower axle housing. DO NOT stretch brake line or parking brake cable. Remove coil spring. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure bottom end of coil spring is against stepped edge of axle spring seat. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
