Each morning or after keeping my VITARA idle for 3/4 hours, when I start a/c, bad smell blowout first then after 1/2 minutes real a/c air comes out. I'm still having my warranty, i'd taken the suv to authorized service center, but they said its not a problem since VITARA doesn't have any aircon filter (strange!), I am not convinced frustrated with its stinky smell whenever I turned on my a/c. Can any body help, suggestion please. This is SUV really good. But this problem is making myself to go for selling option. Thanks everybody.

Hi there,

This is mould growing in the A/C. Heater ducts, make sure the A/C water drain is clear and you can buy a mould killer to treat the system, ask you spare parts outlet they should be able to get it for you.

Hello I have had the same problem with my 07 Grand Vitara. The smell is bad for the first few seconds after turning it on. Esp if it is hot outside. Then the smell goes away. It just recently started to make a hissing sound when running for a while and even leaked cold water on the front 2 floor mats. Have you had more issues? Or where you able to get this fixed. Anyone else have advice? Great car other than this issue.

Thanks all!

Hi there,

Check that the drain tubes for the evaporator are not blocked and that they are draining correctly out side the car, your mechanic can check this for you and also have the vents treated with a mold and mildew cleaner.
