2002 Suzuki Swift engine check

Engine check lamp always on. Very high fuel waste.
so I went to garage, mechanic use a engine scanner for check the fault. But scanner screen show, "connection failure". The mechanic not able to find out what is the problem. Pls give some idea, to find out these fault.

Try another service centre or a dealer to retrieve the fault codes ! You could try removing and carefully cleaning the MAF sensor. But you would still need a diagnostic computer to verify where the fault lies and turn off the light
